Portugal

Having a profusion of local grape varieties, often known by different names across the country’s wine regions and in some cases, different varieties known by the same name in different regions, Portugal’s wines can be confusing! Fortunately, Portugal also produces wines using more internationally recognised grape varieties. Recognising the wisdom that higher quality wines can be produced from lower volumes and through significant investment in recent years, Portugal is now producing some exciting wines.

Port needs little introduction and remains Portugal’s greatest wine export. With 12 main styles, from basic White and Rubies, through Tawnies and Late Bottled Vintages to the sublime Vintages, most find a Port to savour. Based on the Military’s penchant for Port, it will come as no surprise that one of Military Wines Limited’s favourite tastings brings together a range of these delicious wines.
